DWI Penalties

DWI penalties are varied and diverse. First-time offenders do not usually serve a jail sentence, however, the possibility still exists for a jail term of u pto one year. However, more often than not, this sentence can be suspended by the judge, and the defendant will instead, be sentenced to a probation. But, if in any case, the probation terms aren’t met, then the judge can and will revoke the probation, and send him to jail.

For second or third DWI convictions, the penalties are much stiffer. Second-time offenders can have a jail term of up to four years, or a payment in fines of up to $5000.

Third-time offenders may pay up to $10000 in fines, and suffer through seven years of imprisonment.

In all cases though, the driver’s license of the offender, will be revoked.
